Now for the $64,000 question: just how good is this method? I suggest printing this graduated greyscale image to see for yourself:

The grey should be true neutral grey from left to right and the transition from black to white should be perfectly smooth. While I find the results using the above method get me closer than any other method I know of, there is still a very slight cast and lack of linearity that differs from paper to paper. So I still use my Curves profiling technique to nail it.
